5 ways to get fit for your next adventure

How would you like to be able to say yes to any adventure that was presented to you? To have the time, the financial freedom, and the fitness to just, well, say yes?! To not miss out on a hike to the top of Mt. Whitney or across Catalina Island, or an overnight paddle along the Central Coast of California, or for a week of surfing for in Baja. I’m with you. I want to be able to do all of these trips at the drop of a hat.

Easy meal plan guide for a 3 day backpacking adventure

Easy meal plan guide for a 3 day backpacking adventure

Prior to a recent backpacking trip, I was looking for some resources to help me with meal planning. Being someone who usually eats quite well on camping trips (my group of friends tends to carry coolers with fresh food and cold beers quite the distance), I know I had to tone it down for this trip. We were hiking 8 miles in the first day and were anticipating 90 degree heat. To my disappointment, this search yielded suggestions that did not incorporate fresh foods, which should be easy to do on a short weekend trip...

Don't get Burned: Sunscreen Review, Part 2

Don't get Burned: Sunscreen Review, Part 2

Happy first week of spring! Longer days and warmer weekends mean more time in the sun. Yay for vitamin D! We all know that limiting time in the sun and covering up is the best way to avoid getting burnt but, come on, I know you are not going to hide out inside in the middle of the day. You are an adventurer. You live to be outside. You are stoked to get on that board or throw on those hiking shoes and spend the whole day out in nature. That is not going to change. So, it is time to get that sunscreen supply ready.

Don't Get Burned!

Don't Get Burned!

As promised, behold the first round of sunscreen reviews in which you will get my take on five sunscreens. (In case you missed it, you can find my post on how to pick the perfect sunscreen here.) This first round includes only mineral sunscreens. Even though I think mineral is the way to go for both your health and the planet’s, I recognize the pros and cons to both so you will get a mix of mineral and chemical sunscreens in the next post. I’m still on a mission to find the perfect sunscreen for super active days, so send any recommendations my way and I’ll be sure to check them out! If you have any questions about the sunscreen you’re using shoot me an email: Kristen@WayfareCollective.com.

Sun tans, Sun burns, & Sunscreen

Sun tans, Sun burns, & Sunscreen

Summer may be nearing its end but, if you're in the Collective, that doesn't mean that your basket of sunscreen will be put into hibernation. Here in California we're looking forward to fall—one of the most beautiful times of year when the crowds have died down and the weather is at it's best. This may mean island sailing trips, backpacking adventures, and (if you're like me) you may already be dreaming of higher altitudes in hopes that the long rumored El Nino year does in fact dump Sierra snow. Whatever the adventure may be, there will surely be sun on your cheeks.
